I'm going to make something clear right now; I am very horny for retro hair, 30s, 40s and especially the 50s aesthetic( Who would want a Gibson roll anyway? )I've always been partial to Lauren Bacall's baby fresh three quarter part and Veronica Lake's luxurious peek-a-boo waves.I've been practicing for a year and i think that I've achieved the closest thing possible with layered hair. I have developed a great appreciation for the art that is "pin curling" after suffering many failures and going to work looking like a female clown. Making pin curls look good truly requires practice, skill, patience and a little bit of artistry.Yes, i know I'm ugly but i would like to share my finished result.
Now the reason womens' hairstyles became so creative and often outrageous in the 1940s including "Victory Rolls" and variations of pin curls ,was because there was not alot of monetary wealth going around in America as they were just coming out of the depression. The impending war also encouraged a reluctant attitude towards spending money especially on things like fancy clothes so for many, hair became an outlet for style.
